About Cantor Fisher and Techiya Print

Cantor Avraham Fisher feels very lucky that he has succeeded to work in two fields that he enjoys. His love for teaching directed him to advance university studies and his love of chazzanut -- cantorial music -- brought him to study with renowned cantors and with voice teachers.

Cantor Fisher studied Yeshivat Hadarom in Rehovot, the second oldest Hesder Yeshiva in Israel, combining Army training and service with Torah studies. After serving in the Army, Cantor Avraham Fisher studied at the Hebrew University Bible and Jewish history where he received his B.A. He taught in Israel in a few Yeshivot and in Judea and Samaria college.

He decided to come to Canada, together with his wife, Techiya, to teach Jewish students the love for Eretz Israel and Am Israel through the studies of the Torah and Jewish History. In Montreal he studied at Concordia University and received his M.A. in Jewish Studies.

The couple and their children moved to Toronto where Cantor Fisher taught in CHAT (Community Hebrew Academy of Toronto). Cantor Fisher served as spiritual leader and cantor at Beth Israel Peterborough and as a cantor and principal of the congregational school at Beth Jacob Kitchener.

Cantor Fisher is a member of the Toronto Council of Hazzanim (Cantorial Clergymen of Ontario). He is married to Techiya who is the program and event coordinator and teacher at the Talmud Torah, Beth Isaiah Synagogue.

They have three sons and ten grandchildren, all of whom live in Israel, B”H.
